The International African American Museum has received a $500,000 pledge from the Fluor Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the engineering and construction company Fluor Corp.
The company’s donation will be recognized in the African Roots Gallery, which will teach museum visitors about the cultures, knowledges and technologies that Africans brought to the Americas during the forced migration of the slave trade.
Michael Boulware Moore, CEO of the International African American Museum, said the museum is within $1 million of its private fundraising goal and plans to break ground in early 2019 on the former site of Gadsden’s Wharf.
