Spirit Airlines has added a nonstop flight from Charleston International Airport to Detroit (DTW).

Service begins July 10, according to a news release.

“Spirit Airlines continues to deliver on its promise to meet our community’s needs with affordable, direct service to some of the most in-demand destinations,” said Elliott Summey, Charleston International Airport CEO and executive director, in the release. “Nonstop flights to the largest city in the midwestern state of Michigan will give our business and leisure travelers more options getting to the birthplace of the modern automobile and to see all the region has to offer from arts and entertainment to outdoor activities.”

Spirit Airlines came to Charleston International Airport in April 2023 and on the first day of service announced new flights from the Lowcountry to Las Vegas, which began in September 2023, according to the release.

“Our Charleston guests have truly embraced our low fare flight options, supporting our growth and the addition of new, nonstop service to Detroit (DTW) this summer,” said John Kirby, vice president of network planning at Spirit Airlines, in the release. “The new route will make it more affordable to travel to the Motor City and creates more opportunities for Detroit Guests to explore Charleston and enjoy the city’s rich history.”

The service will be available four times a week.

“The partnership between Spirit and Charleston International has been extremely successful in its first year, and this new route signals Spirit’s continued confidence in our region,” said Helen Hill, CEO of Explore Charleston and chair of the Aviation Authority, in the release. “Undoubtedly, increased nonstop service between the Motor and Holy Cities is a win-win, benefitting both Detroit residents interested in our destination’s attributes and Charleston area locals traveling to this major Midwest market.”
