National architecture, design firm opens Charleston office

A Washington, D.C.-based architecture and design firm with 20 locations across the country has opened an office in Charleston.

Page (Page Southerland Page Inc.), a design firm with expertise in academic, health care and historic preservation, has opened its newest Southeast office in Charleston at 22 West Edge, Suite 405, according to a Page news release.

Page is a national Top 10 architecture, engineering, and interior firm with over 1,300 employees across the U.S.

Managing Director Sarah Walter is a Charleston native and Clemson University graduate who moved home from Atlanta to lead the new office, the release stated.

“At Page, we believe that design has the power to promote healthy and vibrant communities,” said Walter in the release. “Charleston is growing at such an incredible pace, and I’m excited to be practicing in my home state and to have the opportunity to help shape that growth in a positive way.” Sarah’s expertise in healthcare planning and design and strategic master planning has served clients nationwide, including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, University of Virginia, and Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. 

Each member of the Page Charleston team has a personal connection to the region, including Matthew Chalifoux, an architect specializing in modernization and preservation, the release stated. Chalifoux is a national leader in historic preservation, bringing over 30 years of experience in modernization and rehabilitation of culturally significant projects. He previously worked on project sites familiar to locals, including a conservation study for the esteemed Drayton Hall and guidance for the historic restoration of the South Carolina State Capitol. 

Some notable Page projects in the area include the Charleston Customhouse Feasibility Study and Seismic Evaluation, which provided recommendations to address structural deficiencies, mitigate seismic risks, and modernize the historic building for continued service, the release stated. The newly completed North Charleston VA Clinic is improving access to care for more than 3,600 families in the greater Charleston area. Additionally, the firm successfully executed the renovation of the University of South Carolina Science and Technology Building and the Medical University of South Carolina Children's Emergency Department.
