McMillan Pazdan Smith Moves into New Charleston Studio at Morrison Yard

McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture (MPS), a leading Southeast architecture firm with a presence in Charleston since 2001, is moving its Charleston studio from its previous location at 121 Calhoun Street to the new Morrison Yard Office Tower.

This move to the sustainable development overlooking the Cooper River at the base of the Ravenel Bridge provides a flexible and inspiring work environment for the firm’s team of architects, designers and planners, who have been involved in many notable projects in the city, including The Cooper Hotel, 677 King Street and The Kempton.

Over the years, MPS’ Charleston studio has grown to include experts in planning and design for healthcare, K-12, higher education, civic and commercial projects–comprising over 40 full-time local professionals. MPS supported the growth of the surrounding area by designing Mount Pleasant’s new Lucy Beckham High School, which celebrated its first graduating class this past May. The firm has also contributed to the booming economic development of the region by designing over six million sq. feet of manufacturing and corporate industrial space in the greater Charleston metro.

The MPS interior design concept for the firm’s new studio prioritized collaboration space and meeting flexibility. In addition to convertible workstations for standing or sitting, there are four client conference rooms, four smaller team “huddle” rooms, and a large town hall area off the open kitchen for all-hands meetings and presentations. Two soundproof booths by the large windows can be used for focused work or distraction-free calling.

The office tower at Morrison Yard is part of a larger mixed-use development that includes residential, retail and hospitality components. The MPS move means other businesses will have the opportunity to secure the three-story, class-A office space with on-site parking that it’s vacating. “While we’ve been busy designing the interiors of our new space to welcome clients to Morrison Yard, we’re also excited to see who takes advantage of our Calhoun Street location,” says Paulette Myers, Principal and MPS Charleston Studio Director.

While MPS outgrew the historic building that has been its Charleston headquarters since 2016, the charming, move-in-ready building–that is available for lease or sub-lease–provides rare walking access to some of Charleston’s most popular restaurants, hotels, shopping, and attractions.
