The Wine & Spirit Education Trust is offering its introductory Level 1 course on Dec. 9 in downtown Charleston.

Wine and spirits educator Thomas GeorgeThe class will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the S.C. Historical Society, at 100 Meeting St. No prior wine knowledge is required.

Students will receive a personalized qualification certificate from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and a lapel pin.

Tickets are $275 for the general public and $250 for food and beverage employees. Fees cover all course materials and tasting samples of wines from around the world.

The Juice Joint opened a new location at 1141 Bowman Road in Mount Pleasant on Monday. The shop sells made-to-order juices, smoothies and bowls.

Bryan and Mandy Elsey of Johns Island own the new franchise location. David Moore of Dandelion Mergers & Acquisitions represented the Elseys in the purchase.

A second James Island location is set to open later this year, at 1291 Folly Road, and the Juice Joint plans to expand to North Charleston early next year.

The Charleston chapter of American Marketing Association will hold Get Down With Giving, a philanthropy event, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at Tradesman Brewing Co.

The event will include a panel of marketing experts, business owners and charity leaders discussing how to incorporate charitable giving into marketing strategy and business.

Topics include giving back on a small budget; creating a mutually beneficial partnership between you and other organizations; increasing brand awareness and elevating social media; selecting charities that are meaningful to your employees, your business and your customers; and getting the media’s attention and exciting your audience.

Tickets include two tokens for beer; for any additional beer purchases, Tradesman will donate $1 to the Charleston Basket Brigade, a local nonprofit that gives area families in need the makings for a Thanksgiving dinner.
