CHARLESTON, S.C. — Mr. Clifford Hunt has been selected as the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic Assured Communications Senior Scientific Technical Manager (SSTM). Cliff will be responsible for identifying, developing and implementing new communications techniques and capabilities that will enable the warfighter to effectively communicate in contested environments across the competition continuum.

Mr. Hunt brings over 35 years of experience with a diverse work history spanning research, development, and sustainment of communications capabilities and experience in numerous leadership roles in the command. Most recently, he has served as the Center’s designated Assured Communications Subject Matter Expert (SME). Previously, he was the SATCOM and Secure Voice Competency Manager, the Assured Communications competency supervisor, and Technical Focus Area champion for Assured Comms. Over his 18 years in the NIWC Atlantic 5.5 Communications & Networks Competency, Cliff has held numerous technical positions from project manager, to team lead, to design engineer. The communication efforts include Design Engineer for numerous classified ACAT 1 communication programs, Assured C2 team lead for the Nemesis program, Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) hardware lead, Systems engineer for SATCOM Systems Engineering Group (SSEG), and Principle Investigator on many NISE projects. Prior to joining the Communications and Networks Department, he was a team lead, design engineer, and In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) in the Radiation Detection, Indication, and Computation (RADIAC) Development, Acquisition and Test Branch. For 11 years, he was the Navy lead for air sampling systems onboard nuclear submarines and carriers. Prior to joining NIWC Atlantic, Cliff worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard in the Instrumentation and Control Branch of the Nuclear Engineering Department. He is a graduate of Clemson University with a BS in Electrical Engineering. In his free time, Cliff enjoys time with his wife, Jane, and his two kids (one Clemson Grad and one currently attending Clemson). He is an active member of his church and operates their camera and sound systems. Cliff is also an avid volleyball player and has competed in tournaments for over 42 years.
