Charleston digital marketing company Stingray Branding has acquired netGalaxy Studios, a mobile app development company also based in Charleston.

A news release from Stingray Branding said the acquisition combines the digital marketing expertise of the company with netGalaxy Studios’ native app design capability and proprietary web design. Stingray Branding declined to disclose the purchase price.

“It does a lot for our ability to service our clients,” said Alan Thompson, founder and CEO of Stingray Branding. “We previously — we were not a mobile app development company. Now we’ll be able to offer that to our clients.”

NetGalaxy Studios was founded by Larry Collett in 2010. The company’s clients have included local startups, regional public entities such as schools and police departments, and larger enterprises including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

Collett said he was on the hunt to sell the company and was looking for someone local who shared netGalaxy Studios’ core values. Thompson expressed interest in netGalaxy Studios and the two started a dialogue, according to Collett.

“I really thought and feel that Stingray Branding was a good fit for netGalaxy,” Collett said.

Stingray Branding is a marketing and branding agency that serves entrepreneurs and small businesses. It has worked with more than 400 companies over the past 10 years, Thompson said.

Thompson will now assume the role of owner of netGalaxy Studios, too. The company will be merged into Stingray Branding over the course of a year, Thompson said.

Collett said netGalaxy is even stronger because of the acquisition.

“To be able to merge the two companies together helps to solidify netGalaxy and Stingray Branding as a leader in this industry,” Collett said.

Thompson said two contractors and one full-time employee from netGalaxy Studios have joined Stingray Branding, bringing Stingray’s employee count to 12.

Collett will continue to work as a consultant for netGalaxy Studios through at least Nov. 1.
