The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded $720,500 in grant funding to 95 nonprofits across the state. The organizations are working to reduce poverty in South Carolina by meeting the immediate needs of people experiencing poverty, breaking the cycle of poverty and working to change systems that are considered to be drivers of poverty.


 

The 2021 National Philanthropy Day Celebration is happening this month. At 10 a.m. Nov. 16, an estimated 300 of Charleston’s leaders in philanthropy will gather in the Grand Ballroom at the Gaillard Center to celebrate those who have made a mark on the community.

Todd and Emily Abedon, Home Telecom and the Crab Bank Restoration Project will be honored with the outstanding philanthropists, outstanding corporate, and outstanding foundation or community organization awards, respectively.

Former professional athlete Chris Singleton, who has been an advocate for racial unity and reconciliation following the loss of his mother in the mass shooting at Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, was announced as the keynote speaker.
