Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. ATTENTION: Submissions should now be made using our online form.

Robert Bosch LLC is scheduled to host the fifth annual Bosch 5K on March 16 at North Charleston’s Riverfront Park.

Sponsorship levels range from $250 to $1,000. All proceeds will benefit the Teachers’ Supply Closet.


The Charleston Charm Gala to benefit Meals on Wheels of Charleston is scheduled for Feb. 23 at Merchants Hall. The menu will be provided by Hamby’s Catering and drinks will be provided by Holy City Brewing, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and the Charleston Tea Plantation.

Tickets are $60.


Follywood Productions is scheduled to host the Follywood Oyster Roast benefiting the Warrior Surf Foundation at noon on March 2 at The Barrel. Warrior Surf Foundation is a nonprofit that focuses on a surf therapy program to help enhance the psychological and physical well-being of veterans, active duty service members and their families. The event will include food trucks, local art vendors and kids’ activities. Pets are not allowed.

Admission is $15 at the door. Oysters are sold separately.


East Cooper Medical Center is one of the hospitals participating in the American Heart Association's Little Hats, Big Hearts program. (Photo/East Cooper Medical Center)The American Heart Association has launched its Little Hats, Big Hearts program in Charleston. The program gives newborns knitted red caps to raise awareness of heart disease. All babies born at participating hospitals during the month of February will receive a hat.

Volunteers from Wells Fargo distributed more than 300 hats to local hospitals, including American Heart Association’s Life is Why sponsor Medical University of South Carolina Health.


Summerville Medical Center is the presenting sponsor for the 2019 March for Babies walk in Charleston. The medical center has donated $20,000 to this year’s event.  

The March for Babies event is scheduled for April 27 at Cannon Park.
