Passengers flying in and out of Charleston International Airport will soon have a new option to satisfy their sweet tooth: Cinnabon is arriving this summer.

The Cinnabon franchise location at the airport is a joint venture between Delaware North, the hospitality company that operates several food and beverage locations at the airport, and franchise operator Shawnalea Garvin, owner of the Airport Employment and Training Center in Atlanta.

Garvin, a Lowcountry native, told the Charleston County Aviation Authority board of directors Thursday that she is “so grateful, I am so excited to grow my business here.”

“I’ve always wanted to be at Charleston International Airport,” she said in a news release. “This is an opportunity to share my business skills and successes with other small-business owners and a chance for me to give back to the community that gave so much to me.”

The Cinnabon will be located next to Burger King.

Mark McCagg, director of nontraditional business for Cinnabon, said the company “loves airports.”

“Cinnabon actually at one time was in 130 airports at one time,” McCagg said. “We have now dwindled to 16. So this is a huge opportunity for us to swing back.”

Helen Hill, CEO of Explore Charleston and chairwoman of the aviation authority board, said in the release that having Cinnabon at the Charleston International Airport is “exciting news … and what a ‘sweet’ deal.”
