Darwin Simpson to return to Patriots Point board

S.C. Senate President Harvey Peeler has appointed Army National Guard veteran and businessman Darwin H. Simpson of Spartanburg to serve on the Patriots Point Development Authority board.

SimpsonThis four-year term will be the second time Simpson has served on the board.

“The future of Patriots Point is very bright,” Simpson said in a news release. “I look forward to serving the betterment of the museum.”

Simpson will rejoin the board of nine, who are appointed at the discretion of the governor or upon recommendation of general assembly leaders. The mayor of the town of Mount Pleasant serves as an ex-officio member.

Simpson retired as president and CEO of Univar Corp., a global chemical distribution company. He served in the war on terrorism and was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal during his 39-year military career. He also received South Carolina’s highest honor, the Order of the Palmetto.
