A national homebuilder is opening a new East Coast division that will be headquartered near Charleston.

Tri Pointe Homes, one of the largest homebuilders in the U.S., is expanding its national footprint with the opening of a new Coastal Carolinas division, according to a news release. The Coastal Carolinas office, which builds upon the company’s operations in the Raleigh and Charlotte markets, will be located near Charleston.

Tri Pointe Homes’ expansion into Orlando and the Coastal Carolinas reflects the company’s strategic plan of growing its business organically in the top 25 homebuilding markets in the U.S – ones that demonstrate the substantial population and job growth this region is experiencing, the release stated. The Southeast has emerged as a leader in U.S. population growth, with South Carolina recognized as the fastest-growing state in the nation in 2023, growing by 1.7%. This growth is part of a broader trend of extensive population increases across the South, positioning the Carolinas as key players in the nation’s demographic shifts.

“The Coastal Carolinas’ robust economies and population growth, coupled with their status as some of the fastest-growing areas in the U.S., present an outstanding opportunity for Tri Pointe Homes to introduce its premium lifestyle brand,” said Doug Bauer, CEO of Tri Pointe Homes, in the release. “We analyzed the dynamics of the Coastal Carolinas to make sure our approach will align with local needs. Strategic expansion for Tri Pointe Homes isn’t just about building homes, but fostering communities where people can thrive.

“The notable growth rates, especially in areas like Charleston, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, as well as Savannah, Georgia, highlight a clear demand for our unique brand of premium, lifestyle-oriented homes. We are thrilled to embark on this expansion and confident in our ability to make a valuable contribution in the Coastal Carolinas region.”

Tri Pointe Homes’ expansion leverages North and South Carolina’s thriving economies across sectors like aerospace, biotechnology, automotive, and retail and distribution, including warehousing, ports and rail. The area’s diverse workforce contributes to a high demand for quality housing at all levels, from premium entry-level to move-up, the release stated. The expansion into the Coastal Carolinas coincides with its Florida expansion and follows Tri Pointe’s entry into the Utah market in late 2023.

Ali Heavener, appointed as division president for the Coastal Carolinas, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in the homebuilding industry to Tri Pointe Homes, the release stated.

“I am excited to be joining Tri Pointe Homes, one of the most respected homebuilders in the nation, to amplify their presence in the Coastal Carolinas,” said Heavener in the release. “Tri Pointe Homes has a passionate culture fueled by a belief that it is in the life-changing business. The company’s commitment to excellence and exceptional customer-driven approach have led to its multiple recognitions as one of the best companies to work for across industries. I am pleased to be joining the company’s leadership team as they make their entry into the Coastal Carolinas market.”
