Hospitality association to host 60-employer job fair

The Lowcountry Hospitality Association will host a hospitality-only job fair next week at the Charleston Area Convention Center.

Representatives from more than 60 employers from the hotel and food and beverage industries are expected at the job fair on Feb. 26, with business locations from Summerville to the barrier islands.

“We are fortunate to live in one of the most popular destinations in the world,” said Tommy Hall, a board member of the Lowcountry Hospitality Association and owner of Halls Chophouse. “This event is a unique opportunity for people to learn about the exciting jobs and careers available with some of the most impressive hospitality-related businesses in the industry.”

Part-time and full-time job openings for all skill levels will be available at the fair, according to a news release. Positions will include fine- and casual-dining servers, leisure sales coordinators, concierge floor attendants and kitchen managers. Employers include Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, Tides Folly Beach, Taco Boy and Charleston Grill.

“Jobs in the travel industry allow individuals the flexibility to gain experience, prepare for higher education, pursue career advancement within the industry and develop transferable skills,” said Michelle Woodhull, a Lowcountry Hospitality Association board member.

Woodhull, who is also president of Charming Inns and Circa 1886 Restaurant, said that four out of 10 Americans start their careers in the industry.

Other employee resources will be on site, including the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority, Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, Ben’s Friends and the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department.

The job fair, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
