Charleston County Environmental Management has launched a new interactive app to help residents reduce household waste and ensure they are recycling correctly.

Recycle Coach is now available for download in the app store from any mobile device, according to a news release

“Charleston County is excited to join the Recycle Coach network, which will transform how we communicate curbside recycling information to our residents. Beyond that, the platform includes engagement and educational tools to help people manage and correctly dispose of their waste,” said Environmental Management Committee Chairman Brantley Moody in the release.

Residents can access Recycle Coach from their desktop computers and mobile devices, the release stated. These platforms make it easy for residents to get local disposal information for thousands of household items whenever it’s needed. The Recycle Coach app is free to download and use.

With Recycle Coach, residents can, according to the release:

  • Stay organized with custom recycling curbside collection and events calendars.
  • Receive recycling collection reminders and real-time updates on service disruptions.
  • Become recycling experts with a comprehensive “What Goes Where?” search tool, including local disposal information and collection requirements for common and uncommon items.
  • Use the problem-reporting tool, equipped with geolocation, to notify Charleston County’s Environmental Management department of issues like missed collections.

“Ultimately, the service takes the guesswork out of recycling, empowering residents to make smarter disposal decisions and take an active approach to reducing household waste. For Charleston County, this will translate into higher recycling rates and less contamination in our recycling stream—a win-win for everyone,” said Moody in the release. “We built a brand-new state of the art recycling center to serve the area so that we can continue to preserve landfill space, but ultimately, it’s up to our residents to recycle correctly. I would encourage those who do recycle to check out this app.”

You can download the Recycle Coach app for free at the iTunes Store and Google Play.
