Two Porter-Gaud Seniors Named 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists

Porter-Gaud School is pleased to announce that Anderson Toole and Logan Castle have been chosen as semifinalists for the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.

DuBose Egleston, Jr., Head of School. “Both Anderson and Logan have long-standing track records of exemplary academic performance and outstanding leadership capabilities. They consistently act with character and integrity, and we are truly blessed to have them as part of the Porter-Gaud community. We wish them well as they advance to the finalist selection process in the spring and look forward to seeing all they will accomplish as they transition to college and beyond.”

The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. More than 16,000 academically talented high school seniors across the nation will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.

High school juniors entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

To become Finalists, Semifinalists and school administrators must submit detailed scholarship applications. About 95% of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title. National Merit Scholarship winners of 2024 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July.
