A downtown Charleston hotel is in prestigious company after being the only hotel in South Carolina named to Condé Nast Traveler’s “The Best Hotels and Resorts in the World: The Gold List 2024.”

The Charleston Place, 205 Meeting St., nabbed the honor and rubs elbows with some of the most acclaimed hotels across the U.S. and globe, including the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.

The publication said the hotel “has become a sort of opulent living room for locals,” noting that “people love to pass through its lobby to check out seasonally themed exhibits, to grab a drink at the Thoroughbred Lounge, or to celebrate milestones, even if they are not staying here.”

Condé Nast also highlighted the hotel’s “fleet of bicycles” with oversized baskets that welcome guests upon arrival, supplying an ideal mode of transport to explore Charleston’s parks.

The publication described The Charleston Place’s crowd as “eclectic and fun, young and old,” where “European travelers feel at home here, but so do locals.”

Condé Nast also noted the hotel’s restaurants, including the “Palmetto Café and live-jazz-playing Charleston Grill with advanced sommeliers, smoothly choreographed French-style service, and not a drop of stuffiness.”
