The DAE Foundation and the Charleston County Department of Public Safety have teamed up for Safety DAE at the College of Charleston TD Arena on March 30, 2024 from 9:30 am – 1 pm. Boys and girls ages 10 – 12 are invited to participate in the Jermel President Free Throw Challenge, with prizes being awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. There will also be an All Star Game. “If you love basketball, you’ll love shooting hoops on the big stage at the College of Charleston TD Arena,” shares President.

This free community event also introduces attendees to Public Safety departments with the Charleston County Public Safety: 9-1-1 Dispatch, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Charleston County Sheriff, Charleston Fire Department, and more onhand to engage students in interactive activities. “The connection between public safety and athletics is that we both require the same things to get our jobs done: commitment, character, and dedication,” says Peggyrose Dowd, Community Engagement Coordinator at the Charleston County Department of Public Safety. The Public Safety interactive exhibits will include information about fire and medical safety, natural disasters, knowledge of the criminal justice system, and will introduce career opportunities in the Public Safety field.
