Every year, Carolinas Association of General Contractors (C-AGC), a construction trade association made up of contractors and construction-related firms, honors a handful of the best construction projects in North and South Carolina with the Pinnacle Award. Pinnacle entries are judged on unique aspects and challenges; special values; project management; budget and schedule; and safety performance. This year, St. Clare of Assisi was awarded Best Building Project for their new church on Daniel Island, constructed by Charleston-based Trident Construction.

Dedicated on April 22, 2023, St. Clare is one of the most significant new churches in South Carolina. Designed by Franck & Lohsen Architects, it draws inspiration from St. Clare’s Basilica in Assisi, Italy. The construction incorporated 310 tons of steel, 1,000 cubic yards of concrete, and 300,000 bricks.

This 21,000 square foot stone structure included stained-glass windows, Statues of the Cross, high marble altar, marble baptism font, main altar, as well as statues of St. Joseph, the Blessed Mother, and St. Clare of Assisi from the 1897 Sisters of St. Francis convent in Pittsburgh.

Trident Construction’s team was able to deliver St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church—one of the most ornate buildings to have been built in Charleston in the last 100 years—to its parish on time, on budget, and with zero recordable injuries.

St. Clare of Assisi parish which has 2,300 members, is led by Father Gregory West and is dedicated to serving the underprivileged in the Charleston community.
