CHARLESTON, SC – SC State University Public Service & Agriculture seeks to increase economic growth, encourage entrepreneurship, and create more employment opportunities in underserved South Carolina communities by launching its series of small business boot camps. The 1890 Extension Community Economic Development Program will kick off the statewide series: Minority Family and Small Business Bootcamp, in Charleston, SC. The three-day initiative will be held at the SC State 1890 Extension Coastal Research & Education Center, located at 35 Lee Street Charleston, SC 29403, from November 17-19.

Aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners will receive hands-on training on foundational business principles, including tax concerns, financials, bookkeeping, entrepreneurship basics, social media marketing and business plan development.

“Small businesses are the very pulse of the communities,” said Dr. Sandra Thompson, state program leader for SC State 1890 Extension Community Economic and Development program. “With this in mind, it is imperative that we furnish these enterprises with the resources, strategic guidance and growth opportunities to ensure they thrive and have long-term success.”

Eligibility Requirements:
Participating businesses must have an EIN number to participate in this event.
Minimum of two business team members (owner and team member).
$25.00 fee per business team for up to three team members. Payments will be accepted on-site only.
All participants must register.

After successful completion of the program, participants will receive ongoing coaching and assistance with their business marketing pitch. Businesses will also receive assistance with the development of a business website, logo and social media presence (a $1000 benefit package).

The registration fee will be collected onsite only on November 17. Payment is required for event entry. Please make checks and money orders payable to South Carolina State University, memo – SC State 1890-CED. No cash payments will be accepted.
