A North Carolina-based coffee chain is expanding into the Charleston market.
Summit Coffee, which has 13 cafés around the Southeast, will add three Charleston-area cafés to its roster in 2024, serving organic coffees, including a rotating selection of seasonal blends, and fresh pastries, according to a news release.
Two cafés will open in Mount Pleasant and another in Summerville.
Summit Coffee was founded in 1998 in Davidson, N.C., and gained popularity for its sustainable approach to coffee that starts in the hands of farmers across the globe, the release stated. Each coffee blend is roasted in small batches to ensure optimal flavor.

At the core of Summit Coffee is its commitment to sustainability, according to the release. Behind-the-scenes, Summit Coffee is a longtime member of 1% of the Planet and Certified Climate Neutral. In the cafés , guests will appreciate sustainability initiatives and programming that will help minimize their impact on the environment.
“The ethos of Summit Coffee is centered around providing coffee and community to the surrounding neighborhoods, and Charleston is a perfect place for those values,” said Summit Coffee CEO Brian Helfrich in the release. “We’re looking forward to meeting our new neighbors in each community and providing a welcoming space for quality coffee and fresh pastries.”
Summit Coffee plans to open the first cafés on Belle Station Road in Mount Pleasant this spring. In addition to the cafés , this location will also house Summit’s bakery, which will supply pastries and other food items to the area cafés .
A second Mount Pleasant and a Nexton location will follow.
