Home repair service provider PunchList has moved its headquarters to downtown Charleston. The company, formerly based in Mount Pleasant, hosted a grand opening celebration last week at its new location on Meeting Street.

PunchList works with real estate agents and their clients to repair issues that arise during the home inspection process. The company provides fast repair estimates by analyzing inspection reports, and a managed network of contractors completes the repairs.

(Photo/unknown)CEO and co-founder Rich Estes said PunchList is a tech-enabled company, meaning employees do a lot of manual labor but use technology to figure it out. Charleston, he said, is a central location for the operation.

“You know, we’re out to help real estate agents and their clients make the repair process easier,” Estes said. “It’s a pretty difficult thing to get done in a real estate closing. We’re a professional organization, that’s all we do. And we’re specialized for that one simple thing.”

Estes said there are many real estate transactions across the country, which means PunchList has a lot of room for growth and a lot of cities for the company to expand to. But he said they are happy to be in Charleston.

PunchList did not have enough space at its location in Mount Pleasant, and Estes said it was tough to find the amount of space needed for the company to continue to grow there.

“There’s more office space being built (in downtown Charleston), so we feel like we can stick close to this area as we grow,” Estes said.

In one year, PunchList went from a 700-square-foot building to 1,700 square feet. The new location on Meeting Street is 7,000 square feet. Estes said they leased more space than they needed.

The headquarters is in Suite 101 at 804 Meeting St., beside the Tattooed Moose and behind Goat. Sheep. Cow.

“We’re so pleased to have your headquarters home right here in the city of Charleston in this really fast-paced area, vibrant area, lots of things coming,” Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said at a grand opening celebration on Wednesday.

Tecklenburg said PunchList’s work is practical and he wishes it had been around when he was a Realtor.

Tecklenburg said the company has been on a remarkable journey. Since opening in 2017, PunchList has expanded from the Charleston market to provide services in 12 cities including Washington, D.C., Tampa, Fla., and Denver.

In February, PunchList announced a partnership with real estate brokerage company Carolina One to provide clients and agents with repair estimates within 24 hours and access to licensed contractors and support personnel if they choose to complete the repairs in the estimate. PunchList also works with companies such as Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.

Estes said PunchList will utilize its raised capital to continue expanding into new markets and to expand technology initiatives to enhance its services.

“Raised capital will help accelerate our transformation while better positioning us to execute on our strategy and mission to alleviate a significant pain point in real estate transactions,” Estes said.
