An unoccupied storage warehouse on Detyens Shipyard's property in North Charleston caught fire today, the North Charleston Fire Department reported.

Heavy smoke funneled out of the commercial building at 1670 Drydock Ave. on the former Navy Base beginning around 1:30 p.m., the department said.

No injuries have been reported. The fire is currently being investigated. The company did not return requests for comment.

Firetrucks from several departments across the Lowcountry responded to the blaze, and the fire department urged people to avoid the area.

"Units from the North Charleston Fire Department, with assistance from the Charleston Fire Department, St. Andrews Fire Department and James Island PSD Fire Department, were able to extinguish the fire. Charleston County EMS is on scene," North Charleston Fire Marshal Cindy Killette said in an email.
