Water Mission reshapes leadership team

A nonprofit organization in North Charleston dedicated to designing, building and implementing safe water and sanitation in developing countries and disaster areas has reshaped its executive team.

Greene IV

George C. Greene IV has been appointed CEO of Water Mission after serving and president and COO. Greene was Water Mission’s first employee when the organization was founded in 2001, the nonprofit said in a news release.

Additionally, Rodney Freeman has been hired as COO. Freeman recently served on the executive team of International Mission Board and has experience at Fortune 500 pharmaceutical brands, Water Mission said. In his new role, Freeman will oversee global operations for Water Mission, the nonprofit said.

Freeman“I’m inspired by what Water Mission has accomplished and the positive impact they’ve had around the globe,” Freeman said in a statement. “I look forward to building on this rich history, as we continue to scale our ability to implement best-in-class solutions that transform lives.”

Water Mission also said the organization’s co-founder, George Greene III, will be moving from CEO and board chairman to the nonprofit’s executive chair. Greene has been serving as CEO of Water Mission for nearly 20 years, the nonprofit said.

Greene IIIAs executive chair of Water Mission, Greene III will focus on strategic plans for the nonprofit and continue to be involved with specific projects. He also has been appointed board chairman of an independent nonprofit, the Global Water Center, which was founded by Water Mission.

“The global water crisis affects almost a third of the world’s population,” Greene IV said in a statement. “The transition of our leadership team is a direct result of the expanding global role Water Mission serves in bringing clean, safe water solutions to more than 2.2 billion people.”

Water Mission, which operates as a Christian engineering organization, has 350 staff members around the world that have worked on safe water projects and implementation in 56 countries. The independent, nonprofit ratings organization Charity Navigator has given Water Mission a four-star rating for 13 consecutive years.
