After two years online, the 19th annual Moms’ Run and Family Fun Day will return for an in-person event at a new location. The 5K run/walk benefiting Postpartum Support Charleston will take place May 7 at Philip Simmons High School.

This event, held each year on Mother’s Day weekend, is the largest fundraising event for Postpartum Support Charleston. Proceeds from the event further the organization’s work offering resources, support groups and peer support for Charleston area moms struggling with maternal mental illness, including postpartum depression, anxiety and OCD.

The race begins at 8:30 a.m. and registration is $30 for adults, $40 for adults with a stroller and $25 for children. New this year is a Kids Dash for ages 3-10, which will take place at 8 a.m. Registration for the Kids Dash is $20 and includes a finisher medal. The Family Fun Day entertainment and activities are included with race registration. Businesses can apply for sponsorship opportunities by emailing momsrun@ppdsupport.org.

ACE Preferred Inspections Inc. recently sponsored a whole home build for East Cooper Habitat for Humanity, which broke ground on two new homes in the Lowcountry.

The 79th East Cooper Habitat for Humanity home at 3806 Garden Hill Road in Mount Pleasant was paid for in full by the donation, and will have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large front porch and a storage shed. Patrice Green was selected as the future homeowner in May 2020.

The Nemours Wildlife Foundation announced that it awarded the first Eugene and Laura duPont Wildlife Conservation Fellowship to Ernie P. Wiggers, Ph.D., the foundation’s retired president and CEO.

The fellowship was established by the board of directors to honor the legacy of Eugene and Laura duPont for their commitment to wildlife conservation both locally and nationally in establishing the foundation. It provides a monthly stipend to the recipient to further conservation work.

Wiggers retired on Dec. 31 after serving as the foundation’s director for 22 years.

Be A Mentor, a Charleston-based, non-profit children’s advocacy organization, announced a partnership with CreatD, a nationwide technology platform built to give creators a voice to enact positive change.

Be A Mentor will use the partnership to ignite change nationwide through reflections on how mentorship has impacted lives here in the Lowcountry. To help support this initiative, community members are encouraged to sign up for the CreatD platform and enter their own mentorship stories.

Board chair, Joe Waring and his wife, Silvia Waring, have also matched CreatD’s gift of $5,000 to make a $10,000 impact on the local community. Be A Mentor provides virtual and in-person mentorships to over 300 children in the Charleston area in 26 schools.
