The Charleston Apartment Association has provided $8,056 to the Lowcountry Continuum of Care. More than 75 association members contributed through participation in a golf tournament dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Continuum of Care.

src=Youth Empowerment Services Inc. will host its eighth annual Dream Girls US Conference virtually at 11 a.m. March 13. The Charleston-based nonprofit is expecting more than 2,000 middle and high school girls from across the country to participate in this free event focused on inspiring and empowering young girls to be the best version of themselves.

The event will include live music and motivational speakers. It will be available for live viewing on the Dream Girls Conference Facebook page, including a live chat option for viewers to connect with mentors and speakers.

src=The city of Charleston will host a free mattress and box spring recycling event from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday at 2150 Milford St. This pilot program is funded by a grant from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Recycle Right SC initiative and runs through June.

BedShred.com and Charleston Mattress are sponsoring the effort. Nine Lives Recycling is also partnering with the city to store and process the materials for other purposes, leaving less than 10% of the material as compacted waste for the landfill.

Only Charleston residents can participate and proof of residency may be requested. A limit of four pieces per vehicle can be recycled. For those who live outside city limits or cannot transport a mattress, pick-up appointments can be scheduled through BedShred.com.

The Saturday event is in addition to the regularly scheduled mattress recycling drop-off days for Charleston residents, held from 2-5 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at 2150 Milford St.
