The Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce’s nonprofit council will host Nonprofit Percent Day on Saturday. Community members can support participating restaurants and shops, and 10% of proceeds will go toward participating nonprofits.

The Palmetto Vision Alliance is a new program spearheaded by Lions Vision Services to maximize resources for blind and visually impaired people in the state. It is made up of 16 organizations, including the Lowcountry’s Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired South Carolina.

The group will meet quarterly to share successes, resources and goals. The first meeting will be held virtually on Oct. 8, the date recognized as World Sight Day.

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mount Pleasant’s Non Disclosure Apparel has launched a campaign to donate bralettes to women undergoing breast cancer treatment at Hollings Cancer Center. Each purchase of a hot pink bralette will be matched with a donation to a woman undergoing treatment.

Black Ink: A Charleston African American Book Festival has been awarded $5,000 from the Literary Arts Emergency Fund for its next festival, which is taking place Jan. 14-16. The two-day event is hosted by the Charleston Friends of the Library in partnership with the Charleston County Public Library and will be virtual and free.

Funding was administered by the Academy of American Poets, the Community of Literary Magazine and Presses and the National Book Foundation.

The festival will host New York Times bestselling author Kwame Mbalia as its keynote speaker. It will also include dozens of African American authors, most from the Lowcountry and surrounding areas, as well as workshops for authors and programs for readers.
