Shifa Clinic has partnered with Charleston Halos to bring food and groceries to kinship families in need in the local community. The partnership will help address food insecurity among low-income families.

Applicants must demonstrate a fit within one of the following focus areas: maritime commerce, economic development, environmental awareness and community outreach. Programs with measurable, sustained impacts receive priority.

Churches, individual schools and community sports teams are not eligible, as are items such as ballot measures, direct overhead costs and salaries.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. July 31.

The center is using its additional space to respond and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has pivoted its resources by temporarily closing the Mount Pleasant location to the public and turning that location into a hub for telehealth services and new therapy technologies.

The Warrior Surf Foundation is partnering with Mex 1 Coastal Cantina to launch Share the Stoke: Win a Board, Give a Board Raffle. Funds raised will go toward the foundation’s surf therapy, yoga and wellness programs to help veterans struggling with PTSD, transitional issues and other mental health challenges.

Each quarter, one local surfboard company will raffle off a board and give a custom board to a graduate of the Warrior Surf Foundation program.

This month, Hoke Surfboards will work with the chosen veteran to design their dream board. The board for the raffle was created by Hoke Surfboards founder Josh Hoke.

Raffle tickets must be purchased by Aug. 13 and are 10 for $10, 20 for $15 and 30 for $25. Participants may also win additional free tickets by sharing the event with friends online.
