The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired South Carolina has launched virtual vision rehabilitation training for adults who are blind or visually impaired. Training covers activities of daily living, assistive technology tutoring, braille, client connections, computer training and peer-to-peer mentoring.

A weekly educational webinar series will also take place at 11 a.m. every Wednesday in May. The series is hosted by Samantha McGovern, the organization’s certified orientation and mobility specialist, who is a certified low-vision therapist. Topics will include managing emotions, tips for staying busy and self-advocacy.

Lowcountry Land Trust invites the public to picnic in their own backyards in place of its canceled annual picnic fundraiser event.

Participants who share their picnic photos to social media will get a chance to win four tickets to the 2021 Annual Picnic.

The Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center participated in Giving Tuesday Now, a new international day of emergency response charitable giving to address the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization will allocate donations to serve children and families across the Lowcountry.

The nonprofit has added the use of telehealth and additional technology to support children’s needs during the pandemic. Dee Norton’s direct service providers continue to go into the office for essential emergency services, including forensic interviews, child and family advocacy, and medical examinations for children with imminent concerns of child abuse.

The Beautiful Gate Center has launched its virtual Give for the Gate campaign, encouraging the community to donate to help purchase equipment and resources for the center.

Jennifer Gossett, founder of Noteworthy Music Therapy, has partnered with the organization to offer free virtual music therapy sessions for children.
