Days before Hurricane Dorian caused chaos and power outages, washed out bridges and roads, and wreaked other havoc along the S.C. coast, the Charleston Animal Society worked with several partner organizations to get homeless animals to safety.

That included airlifting 16 cats from the Charleston area to a safe place in North Carolina (not on the Outer Banks since that’s where Dorian ended up making landfall). The Charleston Animal Society worked with the SPCA of Wake County, with the help of Landrum-based Pilots N Paws.

The flying felines took off Tuesday afternoon from Charleston Executive Airport on Johns Island. Now that Dorian has passed, we just want to tell North Carolina: You keep the hurricanes, and we’ll take our cats back.
