The donations will directly support the organization’s mission to provide safety net services to low-income community members. Services include providing food, clothing, financial assistance, dental and medical services, prescription assistance, financial literacy training, and other educational programs.

East Cooper Community Outreach also was awarded a $50,000 grant from The Leon Levine Foundation, based in Charlotte, to support its dental clinic and overall organizational mission.

The dental clinic provides preventive, restorative and surgical dental care to uninsured low-income adults.

Growth projections for Charleston and Berkeley counties indicated the center needed to double its capacity over the next 20 years. Dee Norton now has space to serve 3,000 children and families.

In addition, Dee Norton has been awarded a $50,000 grant from The Leon Levine Foundation, based in Charlotte. The grant will support Dee Norton’s assessment, treatment and coordination services for children in the Lowcountry.

Dee Norton currently serves approximately 1,600 children per year. In 2018, Dee Norton helped 1,486 children and trained 2,001 professionals. Dee Norton provides an array of services to children and their families when there is a concern for child abuse or trauma exposure. Services include forensic interviews, mental health assessments, medial services, therapy services, parental assessments, multidisciplinary case coordination and advocacy.
