Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. ATTENTION: Submissions should now be made using our online form.

The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry has reopened following renovations on March 2. The eight-week renovation included deferred maintenance projects totaling $550,000. The bathrooms have been updated and the ceiling has been encapsulated. The shed in the museum’s backyard was removed and new HVAC systems have been installed throughout the building.

Updates and renovations to the backyard will continue throughout the spring.


 src=Faculty and members of Phi Beta Lambda at ECPI University’s North Charleston campus organized a campaign to collect donated clothes, toiletries and canned goods for the Steven Austin Homeless Shelter.


East Cooper Community Outreach is scheduled to host the seventh annual Golf Ball – Charity Golf Tournament and Gala, two fundraising events to benefit local families in financial distress. Participants have a chance to win a two-year lease on a brand-new Lexus as well as other prizes at the golf tournament set for noon on April 22 at the Daniel Island Club.

The gala, scheduled for 7 p.m. May 17 at the Daniel Island Club, includes food stations, complimentary beer and wine, and activities such as Wine and Dine Pull, Spirit Ring Toss, a heads or tails raffle, and live and silent auctions.

General admission tickets are $150 per person or $250 for reserved seating. Table sponsorships are available for a donation of $1,950 to accommodate eight guests.
