Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. ATTENTION: Submissions should now be made using our online form.


The Tri-County Cradle to Career Collaborative has named the Rev. Nelson B. Rivers III to a 2 1/2-year term on its board. Rivers is the pastor at Charity Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston and vice president of religious affairs and external relations for the National Action Network.

The USS Yorktown Foundation and the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum have donated $12,000 to food banks in North Carolina and South Carolina that have aided Hurricane Florence victims. A $6,000 donation went to the Helping Hands food bank in Dillon, and another $6,000 went to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

Through its Golden Angel Program, Palmetto Goodwill provided a holiday meal and gifts to 80 seniors at the Charleston Area Senior Center. Meals and gifts were distributed to more than 800 low-income seniors during the holiday season.
