Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. ATTENTION: Submissions should now be made using our online form.

American Legion Post 136 is scheduled to host the Fishing for Vets InShore Salt Water Fishing Tournament on Oct. 20 at The Rusty Rudder in Mount Pleasant.

Tickets are $65 for each Angler and can be purchased by email or by calling 843-437-4732 or 703-862-7176. Funds raised will benefit veterans in the local community.


Wild Dunes Resort is hosting the Sea Life Safe Beach Sweep from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Guests can win prizes from Wild Dunes Resort and the S.C. Aquarium. There will be live music at the post-sweep event, and participants will receive discounted food and drinks.


Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust has received national accreditation, joining a network of over 400 land trusts. In recognition of the achievement, the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation awarded the trust a $10,000 unrestricted gift.


Habitat for Humanity of Berkeley County has received $5,000 from Charleston Trident Association of Realtors. The donation was from the Realtors Housing Opportunities Fund through Coastal Community Foundation.


Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired – Charleston has received an $8,000 grant from the Mark Elliott Motley Foundation to provide funding for vision clinics at two Charleston County elementary schools.

The funds will support the Focus on Children program, which provides free vision screenings, comprehensive eye exams, prescription glasses, referrals and eye care education to students in Charleston County schools.
