LimRic Plumbing, Heating & Air’s June recipients of the company’s Give Back Grant program are Charleston Hope and Purple Heart Homes. The Give Back Grant program makes a financial contribution to two nonprofit organizations every month. LimRic has expanded the program this year by adding a volunteer element in addition to monthly donations.

Charleston Hope provides classroom mentorship for students, and development and leadership programs for young women. Volunteers can serve as mentors, adopt a classroom or donate money to the organization.

Purple Heart Homes works to provide functional and quality housing for disabled veterans. LimRic will work with one of its partners to provide air conditioning equipment, installment and service to a local veteran’s home.

The Cane Bay Family YMCA has received $250,000 from local business leader Carolyn Hunter for its capital campaign to finish its new facility. Hunter owns C&A Unlimited Inc., which operates McDonald’s franchises in Ladson, Moncks Corner and Summerville.

The new facility will have a 25-meter swimming pool and it will partner with area schools and area organizations to create easily accessible swim lessons. The YMCA plans to honor Hunter by naming the second-grade swimming program after her.

The Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center has released its 2017 annual report. The nonprofit helped 1,674 children in 2017 and has now helped more than 28,000 children since opening in 1991, according to a news release.

In 2017, the center also launched Above and Beyond: The Campaign to Help Children Soar, to fund the development of a second center in Mount Pleasant and the renovation of the existing center in downtown Charleston. Once both locations are complete, the organization expects to be able to treat 3,500 children annually.
