Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. ATTENTION: Submissions should now be made using our online form.

The Green Heart Project is planning its eighth annual Harvest Dinner for 6 to 8 p.m. May 17 at its flagship urban farm at Mitchell Elementary School. The event is a neighborhood block party celebration with barbecue and food sourced from local farms and Green Heart’s gardens.

Tickets are $20 for community members; $10 for students; free for kids 12 and younger.

Hyman’s Seafood is offering Lowcountry teachers a free meal up to $20 in value for Teacher Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today. Meals can be ordered until 8 p.m., and teachers must show school ID.

The Charleston RiverDogs and Blackbaud are highlighting eight local nonprofits on Mondays this season at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park. The following charities are scheduled to be highlighted:

• Spokes Group Charleston on June 11
• Surfer’s Healing on July 16
• Larry Legend’s D.R.E.A.M.S. on July 23
• The Charles Webb Center on Aug. 13
• Doors to Freedom on Sept. 3

Positive Strides, The Invisible Illnesses and Pets 4 G.I.s Inc. were highlighted at previous games this year.

The SunTrust Foundation has donated $10,000 to the USS Yorktown Foundation to cover the cost of admission to Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum for all veterans during Veterans Day weekend.

Patriots Point is an official regional site for the observance of Veterans Day. Admission will be waived for all veterans Nov. 10 and 11.

Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. is donating $1 of every pint of Something Cold sold through Thursday to the sister of chef Johnny Singleton, Jodie Adam. Adam was hit by a car last week while crossing the road and is in critical condition, according to a news release. All the proceeds from taproom sales will benefit Adam’s Go Fund Me campaign.

Dorchester Paws is recognizing several members of the community who have made significant contributions to the shelter at an upcoming dedication ceremony.

Portions of the recently renovated facility will be named after the following individuals and families: Frances R. Willis, Dick Starkey, Merle Handlesman, Judith Baird, the Messervy-Provence Family, Dr. Glen Haynes, Dr. Brunson Westbury, Dr. Chad Reynolds and Clay Thornton.

The public is invited to attend a reception at 6 p.m. Thursday at the shelter.
