Helping Out for Jan. 3, 2018

Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. Submissions should be sent to

The Ark of SC, a nonprofit that provides support services to families living with Alzheimer’s Disease or a related dementia, has received a $1,000 grant from The CarMax Foundation. The ARK received the grant as part of its 18th annual Race for The ARK from The CarMax Foundation Volunteer Team-Building Program.

The Shifa Clinic, a nonprofit and tax-exempt clinic established by The Islamic Circle of North America Relief USA, is set to host a benefit dinner from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Marriott at 170 Lockwood Blvd. The event will include Dr. Abdulhakim Mohamed, president of Asia Humanitarian Aid and director of development of Imana, and Jennet Robinson Alterman, a nonprofit consultant and women’s rights advocate. There will also be a silent auction and appetizers.

Tickets are $50.

Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. is scheduled to host its monthly Charity Day on Jan. 10. A quarter of the proceeds of the day will be donated to One80 Place, a nonprofit that aims to end homelessness.
