Alcami Corp. to expand North Charleston operations

Pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturer Alcami Corp. plans to expand its North Charleston operations with a $17 million investment, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce.

Alcami is based in Durham and Wilmington, N.C., and has been operating in North Charleston since 2001. The company provides development and manufacturing services for small and midsized companies.

Alcami plans to add approximately 6,000 square feet to its facility at 4221 Faber Place Drive, according to a news release, which is expected to increase the company’s sterile drug product development and manufacturing capacity and create 30 new jobs.

“The buildout of our Charleston facility comes at a time of rapid growth for Alcami and represents a long-term commitment to our sterile drug product clients, our talented workforce and the greater Charleston area,” Alcami site director Darold Hill said in the release.

The expansion is expected to be completed in 2021.

“The growth of Alcami Corp. during its 18 years in North Charleston has been truly remarkable,” said Charleston County Council Chairman Elliott Summey. “This company is a highly valued corporate citizen, and with this expansion, it is renewing its steadfast and long-standing commitment to our community.”
