SCRA Applied R&D has been picked to lead the Navy Metalworking Center under an indefinite contract with a $99 million ceiling, the Summerville-based corporation said in a news release earlier this week.
SCRA and EWI, an Ohio-based engineering and technology organization, will jointly operate and manage the Johnstown, Pa., facility, a Navy Manufacturing Technology Center of Excellence. SCRA Vice President Marty Ryan will direct the new center with EWI senior manager Paul Blomquist serving as technical director.
“The SCRA/EWI team will support the Navy and its warfighters by joining with the industry’s best technology providers to reduce acquisition and life-cycle costs, improve capabilities and deliver exceptional value to the Navy,” Ryan said in the release.
The Navy has chartered seven centers of excellence under the Office of Naval Research to develop advanced-security and defense technologies. SCRA also operates the Naval Shipbuilding and Advanced Manufacturing Center and the Composites Manufacturing Technology Center for the Navy.
