Charleston’s newest luxury boutique has opened. The Palmetto, 194 E. Bay St., is an ode to Charleston’s blend of history and modernity, according to a news release.

The Palmetto boasts 45 rooms appointed with king-size beds, some of which open onto balconies overlooking the East Bay, Faber and Cumberland streets, the release stated. Also available is the penthouse suite, with floor-to-ceiling windows revealing panoramic views of the city’s skyline, plus a 500-square-foot balcony.

With interior design by Looney & Associates, the rooms feature palmetto-print wallpaper and curated local artwork, as well as Bamford bath products, and custom monogrammed robes and slippers.

The Palmetto’s lobby features a gilded cut-crystal chandelier in the shape of its namesake, a palmetto tree, hanging from the lobby’s high ceilings, according to the release. With creations by Sarah Gray Miller, owner of antique and design shop UnQuiet, Palmetto guests can lounge on vintage settees upholstered with a rare 1910s postcard print from Isle of Palms, play a game of backgammon or rearrange the series of moveable ottomans and drink tables to accommodate their groups of four, six or eight.

The Lobby Bar, which is open to guests and the public, serves a menu of classic cocktails with a Charleston twist, like the passionfruit and rum-based Lowcountry Sunrise and the violet-hued Wisteria Fizz, made with locally distilled Nippitaty Aurora Gin, the release stated.
