2 downtown Charleston restaurants close permanently

The Neighborhood Dining Group is permanently closing two of its downtown Charleston restaurants, citing the changing market dynamics brought on by the coronavirus.

David Howard, president of Neighborhood Dining Group, said in a statement that McCrady’s, a tasting-menu-only restaurant at 155 East Bay St., is no longer viable in a business environment with restrictions on seating capacity.

Minero, which was located above McCrady’s, will also not reopen, Howard said, so that the company can focus on opening a Johns Island location.

“We’re so grateful for the many wonderful years we’ve spent on East Bay Street and would like to extend the sincerest appreciation to our neighbors, Charleston community, and visitors who have dined with us over the years,” Howard said. “It’s been a true honor.”

He added that Neighborhood Dining Group plans to reopen its other Charleston restaurants, Husk and Delaney Oyster House, as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Howard told the Business Journal earlier this month that reopening his restaurants would be akin to opening a brand-new restaurant because of how different things will be.

“We have to adjust our business hours, our management levels, our staffing levels, our menu size to provide us a new version of our restaurant that we were operating in six months ago. … We need to be cautious and deliberate and not be overly optimistic and be responsible,” Howard said.
