The PGA Championship has adjusted its ticket and registration window for the 2021 PGA Championship on Kiawah Island because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the organization said in a news release.

Tickets were scheduled to go on sale in May. The PGA uses a registration system so fans can be alerted to ticket availability to secure their spot for specific types of ticket. The PGA has extended the registration to Aug. 9, which means the window to buy tickets also has been delayed.

The PGA Championship drew thousands of fans to the Charleston region in 2012. The tournament returns to Kiawah Island in May 2021. The actual date of the championship is not affected; it is still set for May 17-23 next year at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The Ocean Course previously hosted the PGA Championship in 2012.

“As the world continues to grapple with the effects of this horrendous virus, we have decided to delay the sale of 2021 PGA Championship tickets to our registrants,” Championship Director Scott Reid said in a statement. “With uncertainty surrounding travel, employment and everyday life, we do not feel it is appropriate to ask our spectators to make purchasing decisions during this time.”

The PGA said the registration system allows fans to hold their place in line to purchase tickets in August, but registering doesn’t obligate you to purchase tickets. The organization said certain ticket types typically sell out faster than others, so this allows fans to get an equal chance to get the tickets of their choice.
