Hamby Catering & Events is having a monthlong promotion at The Market at Hamby in celebration of Hamby’s 40th year of business. The Market at Hamby, located at 925 St. Andrews Boulevard.

A new special will be offered each week of September.

Fran Hamby founded Hamby Catering in 1979 when she helped cater a family friend’s 400-person wedding reception. After the event, demand led Hamby and her husband to found Hamby Catering.

The company has grown in the decades since, and Hamby has been invited to host a seminar at the Catersource conference and trade show for the past two years.

In 2017, after holding various roles within the company for seven years, Candice Wigfield became president and co-owner of Hamby Catering, along with her father, Wayne Culbertson.

Wigfield plans to expand offerings at the retail location and plans to lead the company to become the “caterer of record” for more large-scale events in the Southeast.

Candi Love’s Bakery in Citadel Mall opened Sunday. The bakery will serve cupcakes, ice cream, cake pops, cookies, chocolate-covered strawberries, banana pudding and more, as well as seasonal flavors such as pumpkin cheesecake.

Candi Love’s Bakery also caters events including weddings, birthdays, pop-up shop events and corporate events.

“My inspiration comes from my great grandmother, Lily, who baked from 17 years old until she was 70 for our family, church events and community gatherings,” owner Candice Miller said. “When we woke up each morning there was always something sweet for us to eat. She gave us love that we all were able to hold on to forever, and I express that same love for my customers by providing exceptional quality and distinctiveness through all of our featured products.”

McDonald’s is now on DoorDash for some of its Charleston restaurants.

Customers will be able to place their McDonald’s orders through the DoorDash mobile app or at the DoorDash website. McDonald’s is also part of DashPass, a subscription program for DoorDash that nixes delivery fees on orders of $12 or more from participating restaurants.

McDonald’s also delivers via Uber Eats. The company expects delivered food to make up $4 billion in business for McDonald’s and its franchise restaurants globally in 2019. 

Virginia-based pizza restaurant Benny’s has purchased the building at 111 S. Main St. in Summerville, with plans to open a restaurant there.

Benny’s has two S.C. locations — Benny Ravello’s on King Street in Charleston and Benny Palmetto’s on Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. The company also has locations in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Hank Beckham of Wilson Kibler represented Benny’s in the purchase of the building, which sold for $625,000.
