On the Menu provides the latest news from the Charleston area’s culinary community, including new restaurants, new menu items and upcoming events, as well as details about local chefs. ATTENTION: Submissions should now be made using our online form.

Louie’s Kids is scheduled to host its 12th annual Little Chef Big Chef event from 7 to 10 p.m. June 24 at Halls Signature Event in downtown Charleston. The event pairs local young men and women with professional chefs to teach participants about the importance of eating healthy, as well as skills to prepare meals.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 843-724-3808. All proceeds from the event go to Louie’s Kids to help prevent and treat childhood obesity and promote healthy, productive lifestyles.


Edmund’s Oast Exchange and certified sommelier Sarah O’Kelley will offer another round in the series of Saturday Somm Schools starting June 1. The classes are for those who are contemplating taking an entry-level wine certification or for anyone looking to enhance their wine aptitude.

The 12-week series costs $20 per class. Classes are stand alone, but participants can sign up for the entire series. Food and beverage industry employees can attend for $10 per class by using the code “sommfandb” when checking out online.
