On the Menu provides the latest news from the Charleston area’s culinary community, including new restaurants, new menu items and upcoming events, as well as details about local chefs. ATTENTION: Submissions should now be made using our online form.

Butcher & the Boar is scheduled to open in the fall at 730 Coleman Blvd. in Mount Pleasant. The restaurant will serve meat and game, with a focus on in-house butchering.

The 12,000-square-foot restaurant will include an indoor lounge and bar with a whiskey and bourbon selection, and private event spaces for parties ranging from 12 to 100 guests. There will also be a dog-friendly patio.


 src=Millers All Day will begin offering its new happy hour from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The happy hour will occur seven days a week, and the menu includes rotating drink specials.


Chefs from Hall Management Group will compete to be named the top executive chef and top restaurant in the group at the Braggin’ Rights Bash, from 7 to 10 tonight at Halls Signature Events.

Competing chefs and restaurants include Halls Chophouse, High Cotton, Old Village Post House Inn, Rita’s Seaside Grille, Slightly North of Broad and Halls Chophouse Greenville.

Attendees will taste food with beer or wine pairings and will vote for their favorite. Tickets are $100 per person, all-inclusive. For tickets, call 843-242-3185.


Edmund’s Oast Exchange and certified sommelier Sarah O’Kelley are set to offer another series of Saturday Somm Schools starting Sept. 8. Classes are for those who are seeking an entry-level wine certification or for anyone looking to enhance their wine aptitude.

Offered weekly from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the 12-week series costs $20 per class. Classes are standalone, but participants can sign up for the entire series.


 src=The Greater Charleston Restaurant Association Inc. is holding Charleston Restaurant Week Sept. 5-16 at more than 100 restaurants throughout the Lowcountry.

This year, Charleston Restaurant Week is partnering with Charleston Beer Week, and participating restaurants will be offering a special beer or pairing along with their Restaurant Week dishes.

The Charleston chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier International — a worldwide philanthropic society of professional women leaders in food, fine beverage and hospitality — is scheduled to host a Family Farm Fest from 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at Joseph Fields Farm. The event includes:

Admission is $10 per adult, $5 per child; children younger than 3 are free. The event will benefit Earth Heart Growers, which works to create a bridge between schools and the community with local farms; and the Les Dames d’Escoffier International Charleston scholarship program.
