On the Menu provides the latest news from the Charleston area’s culinary community, including new restaurants, new menu items and upcoming events, as well as details about local chefs. Submissions should be sent to dailyjournal@scbiznews.com.

The Glass Onion has partnered with food writer and photographer Allston McCrady to publish an updated version of the restaurant’s cookbook. More Glass Onion Classics has color photography and several new recipes. It also includes profiles on farmers, purveyors, millers and fishers who supply the ingredients used at the restaurant.

The Glass Onion owners Chris and Suzanne Stewart will be signing books from noon to 3 p.m. April 8 at the Preservation Society of Charleston and at 5 p.m. April 19 at Blue Bicycle Books. Copies of More Glass Onion Classics are available for purchase at the restaurant and on Amazon.


 src=The New Gullah Supper Club is scheduled to host a dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. March 25 on Edisto Island. Chef Kardea Brown will prepare Gullah-inspired Southern dishes. The menu includes small plates, a salad, a main course and dessert; all ingredients are fresh and local, and the menu is subject to change. The location of the event will be sent via email to attendees the day before the event.

Tickets are $100.


Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission is hosting the first of this year’s Wine Down Wednesday events from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 21 at Old Towne Creek County Park. The event includes wine, food trucks and live music.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Admission includes wine, live music and a commemorative wine glass. Food truck Just Eat This will have food available for purchase.


Frothy Beard Brewing Co. is scheduled to host its fifth anniversary celebration from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. March 24. The event will include food, drink specials, live music and entertainment.


 src=Wild Dunes Resort restaurant Coastal Provisions is offering several special menu items for St. Patrick’s Day.

Shamrock Fizz: A green drink with gin, lime, creme de menthe, creme de cocoa, heavy cream, egg white and lime bitters.

Loaded Baked Potato-Irish Coffee: King Bean coffee, Jameson whiskey, whipped cream and green peppercorn demerara syrup, dusted with Loaded Baked Potato powder.

Short Rib Guinness Pie: Shepherd’s pie with Guinness in the stock mixture and savory short rib meat.


Short Grain is set to host a pop-up series at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays starting today at Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. The full Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. bar will be open for beverage purchases.

The brewery is also holding a release party for a new collaborative beer called Charleston Brewery District from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. The beer, created through a collaboration among members of the brewery district, is a honey-rye pale ale that uses American-grown malts and hops, S.C.-grown Seashore Rye from Geechie Boy Mill and honey from Bee Well farm in Pickens.

The Charleston Brewery District includes Palmetto Brewery, Revelry Brewing Co., Cooper River Brewing Co., Fatty’s Beer Works, Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co., Munkle Brewing Co., Tradesman Brewing Co., and Lo-Fi Brewing.

Additionally, the brewery is partnering with Patti O’Furniture to present the Divas on Tap Drag Show at 2 p.m. Sunday. The event will include performances by Brooke Collins, Julianna Jade, Kymmya Starr and Kylee Lovlee. The event is free to attend and will take place during brunch.
