Holy City Brewing is opening a new production facility later this year, creating 15 new jobs and joining the slew of businesses moving to the Spruill Avenue area.

The new facility will be located at 1021 Aragon Ave. in the old North Charleston Public Works building.

Holy City Brewing, founded in 2011, currently has a taproom and production facility at 4155 Dorchester Road. The Dorchester Road location will remain open, according to brewery owner and production manager Chris Brown, while the new location will initially be a production facility that is closed to the public.

“Beyond that,” Brown said in a news release, “we have some big plans for the new site.”

Brown said the brewery was not ready to comment further.

In an interview in November, Brown said the brewery was starting to outgrow its current facility.

“We’re maxed out here,” he said. “We should do about 6,000, 6,200 barrels this year, and that’s really all I can do out of this space with the amount of tanks and the amount of space we have. … We’re kind of constrained with what we’ve got here.”

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey said he was glad to see Holy City Brewing take over the former public works facility.

“This adaptive reuse project and economic development expansion will become a gathering place for the community to enjoy,” Summey said. “We look forward to seeing Holy City's continued growth.”
