Update, 10:30 a.m. Dec. 4: If you spent the whole weekend plotting ways to spend Tuesday and Wednesday on the peninsula so you could get a basket of kittens, you can breathe easy: Pounce Cat Cafe and Wine Bar is expanding the service. Deliveries are available in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday, downtown Wednesday and in North Charleston on Thursday.
Pounce Cat Cafe and Wine Bar, the cafe on Meeting Street that allows you to sip pinot grigio while surrounded by cats just like in that dream you had, is trying something new next week: kitten deliveries.
For $100, Pounce is allowing you to book a 30 minute time slot between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. when employees will bring a basket of five or six kittens to anywhere on the Charleston peninsula. Coffee and holiday treats, as well as a playpen for the kittens, are included with the visit.
Charleston Animal Society, which supplies the cats for Pounce Cat Cafe, is also supplying kittens for the visits.
Pounce co-founder Ashley Brooks said all of the cats included in each visit are adoptable on the spot, meaning the visit could become permanent if a particular kitten (or the entire basket of fur) pulls at your heartstrings.
Brooks said she was inspired by the Uber Kittens service briefly launched a few years ago through which people could request a visit from kittens before requesting a ride to lunch.
“Basically we were just like, ‘This would be such a fun and cool idea for us to do, especially with Charleston Animal Society, to get these kittens adopted before the holidays,’” she said. “So we’ve just been playing around with the idea and thought it would be really fun.”
Holiday shopping getting you down? Order a basket of kittens. Stressful work environment? Kittens are the answer. Pounce warns that it’s best to check with your boss or building before bringing felines to an office or classroom; but really, who can say no to coffee, cookies and cats?
The service is available only next Tuesday and Wednesday, but Brooks said if it’s successful, Pounce may do it again closer to the holidays or around Valentine’s Day.
