Dorchester School District Two health care students honored

Dorchester School District Two health care students won state awards in a recent competition and qualified for international competition in Nashville, Tenn., in June. 

Students from Ashley Ridge, Fort Dorchester and Summerville high schools earned recognition through the state level of Health Occupation Students Association – Future Health Professionals, which develops students to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration and experience. 

The honorees are: 

Ashley Ridge 

  • Kaylin Barefoot, first place in Veterinary Science 
  • Peyton Beachy, Rowan Hearn, Elisa Rice and Emily Thiele – first place in Creative Problem Solving 
  • Mariam Shehab, Elena Stopar and Olivia Wildes – first place in Public Service Announcement 
  • Kennedy Elwood, Isabella Grossman, Beckham Harris, Brooks Matthews and Courtney Tedesco – first place in Medical Reserve Corp. Partnership 
  • Alaura Gavins – third place in Clinical Specialty 
  • Eli Skoglund – Outstanding HOSA member 
  • Hanna Beckman – SC HOSA Adviser of the Year 
  • Ashley Ridge High School – Champion Donor 

Fort Dorchester 

  • Shreena Patel – first place in Medical Assisting 
  • Aaron Anderson, Thao Nghi Nguyen, Michelle Park, Haylee Robertson and Macey Wilkinson – second place in Public Health 
  • Madeleine McBride – second place in Nursing Assisting 
  • Bhumi Desai, Anh Nam Nguyen, Mion Smith and Amelia Swinehart – third place in Biomedical Debate 

Summerville 

  • Helen Hamilton, Logan Kelley and Sarah Tracy – first place in Public Health 
  • Mary Ruth Horres – first place in Biomedical Lab Science 
  • Lily Campeau, Tehya Kennett and Abby Litz – third place in Medical Innovation
