A national in-home senior care company has acquired Lowcountry Companions, a Mount Pleasant-based provider of home and hospice care.

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 and has hundreds of franchised and owned businesses across the country, including an additional location in Mount Pleasant. Lowcountry Companions will now operate in conjunction with the other location under the Senior Helpers of Charleston name.

“Our acquisition of Lowcountry Companions strategically expands our reach in South Carolina allowing for more growth of in-home and hospice care opportunities,” Amy Petersen-Smith, owner of Senior Helpers of Charleston, said in a news release. “In light of recent events, home-based care is on the front lines of health care and we’re passionate about supporting our community.

Lowcountry Companions owner Tali Wells said the acquisition will allow the combined company to serve more seniors in the Charleston area.

“Lowcountry Companions’ outstanding reputation and high-quality services will serve Senior Helpers’ objective to ensure a better quality of life for seniors and their families by providing dependable and affordable care,” she said.

Senior Helpers has eight other locations in South Carolina, including in Anderson, Fort Mill, Greenville, Greenwood, Hilton Head Island, Lancaster, Murrells Inlet and Rock Hill.
