Fitness First USA, a wellness supplement supplier, intends to relocate to Mount Pleasant, bringing an initial investment of $600,000 and 10 new jobs in the first year, the company said in a news release.
The Mount Pleasant facility will have a retail store with vitamins, supplements, fitness products and snacks, as well as an education center to offer yoga classes, personal training and wellness seminars. The grand opening is Saturday at 547 Long Point Road, the company said.
“Our goal at Fitness First USA is to help our customers achieve lasting health and wellness,” said Kevin McCourt, A&Z Pharmaceutical Inc. vice president of sales and marketing. “We are very excited to open our first retail store and e-commerce facility in beautiful Mount Pleasant.”
Fitness First, a division of A&Z Pharmaceutical Inc., was founded in 1996 in Portsmouth, N.H. The company considered expanding in New York City before deciding to move to Mount Pleasant. The company is developing partnerships with the local wellness community, as well as the military, which is one of the largest customer bases for Fitness First.
This is the second company to locate in the area as part the Landing Pad program, a joint venture of the S.C. Department of Commerce and the Charleston Regional Development Alliance designed to help companies enter the S.C. market for the first time.
“Fitness First USA and its parent company, A&Z Pharmaceutical, are welcome new assets to our community,” said Todd Gallati, chair of the CRDA board and CEO of Trident Health. “We look forward to their continued growth and success.”
